The eyes of the sporting world will be firmly turned on Yorkshire in the next few months with the first two stages of the Tour de France 2014 being hosted across the county this summer. With Leeds, Harrogate, York and Sheffield being the focus of the start and end of the stages and the race rolling through the Dales and Peak District, it got me to thinking that there may well be Solicitors based outside of the county eyeing the beautiful landscapes and vibrant cities with envy.
If watching the likes of Froome, Cavendish and Contador has you wondering about the possibilities of relocating to what those in the know call “God’s Country” and what to expect from the legal sector in this part of the world, then here are a few facts and snippets of information that might help you decide to make that application.
Largest Legal Centre
Leeds is commonly cited as the UK’s largest most important legal centre outside of London with 150 law firms employing almost 7,000 people. 23 of the Top 100 Law firms in the UK have an office in at least one of Leeds, York or Sheffield and, according to the Law Society there are 7,862 solicitors in private practices in the Yorkshire region.
Wider Business Sector
Leeds is the second largest centre for business and finance services outside the capital, has the third largest manufacturing sector and is one of 5 UK cities best placed.
